Summary
Kansas Office of Judicial Administration is hiring an IT System Engineer to install, configure, and maintain multi-user server and endpoint computing environments. The role focuses on ensuring uptime, performance, capacity, and security across enterprise infrastructure and cloud services while supporting judicial branch operations.
What you'll do
- Administer and maintain enterprise IT systems including servers, storage, backup, and disaster recovery/business continuity.
- Implement and support identity management solutions.
- Develop, maintain, administer, and manage cloud services and workloads (Azure compute, storage, identity, security) and Azure Resource Management.
- Manage and maintain enterprise virtualization platforms (VMware and Azure Local) including provisioning and support.
- Monitor, log, tune performance, and troubleshoot systems and Azure-related issues to ensure optimal uptime.
- Implement, maintain, and refresh hardware infrastructure supporting Kansas Judicial Branch functions.
- Automate IT processes using scripting (PowerShell, Python, or similar) and basic programming for configuration/enhancement.
- Ensure compliance with IT policies, governance, and regulatory standards (e.g., NIST CSF, CJIS).
- Collaborate with support, networking, security, and application teams on endpoint management (MDM, Intune, SCCM) and system security (EDR, SIEM) to maintain system integrity.
- Support and maintain Azure networking components (VPN, ExpressRoute, Virtual WAN).
- Create technical documentation and provide user training as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field (may be substituted with equivalent work experience).
- Seven years of professional experience in IT system administration roles.
- Proficiency managing complex server environments with multiple operating systems/versions; strong proficiency with Windows Server and/or Linux/Unix.
- Experience with server administration (installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting) and data center hardware (servers, racks, power distribution, cooling).
- Experience with monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning (capacity planning preferred).
- Familiarity with storage technologies (SAN, NAS, RAID).
- Experience with virtualization (VMware or Hyper-V) including VM provisioning and management.
- Experience implementing and managing backup solutions for data protection and disaster recovery.
- Experience with cloud platforms and configuring services/resources (Azure; AWS also mentioned).
- Experience with user account management and security permissions (Active Directory) and implementing IT security best practices.
- Advanced understanding of networking concepts.
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders, cross-functional teams, and vendors for procurement/compatibility/cost optimization.
- Leadership ability to mentor and guide team members and foster collaboration/knowledge sharing.
- Automation/scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Preferred certifications: Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, Linux Professional, or CompTIA Server+ (or similar).
