The Social Media Manager owns day-to-day posting, copywriting, content creation, and community engagement across Lonely Planet’s social channels to grow audience connection and impact. The role focuses on social-first copy and video while maintaining consistent brand voice across editorial and sponsored content.
What you'll do
- Manage daily content creation, copywriting, posting, and community engagement across Lonely Planet’s social media channels.
- Respond to community questions and feedback in a timely manner while maintaining an elevated, consistent brand tone and voice.
- Identify relevant social and travel-industry trends and act on timely engagement opportunities.
- Partner cross-functionally with editorial and sponsored content teams to repackage and concept social-first content.
- Collaborate with the social team to ideate, develop, and maintain always-on engagement strategies aligned to channel-specific KPIs and overall brand strategy.
- Identify and evaluate new and emerging platforms to reach travelers in fresh ways.
Requirements
3+ years of social media experience for a brand or publication.
Content creation experience with a portfolio demonstrating social copy and video work.
Experience scaling editorial content to social channels and video with a focus on increasing engagement.
Familiarity with moderating large digital communities.
Experience with project management software and content creation tools (preferred: Asana, Sprout, Canva, CapCut).
Ability to thrive in a collaborative, autonomous, and agile environment.
Passion for building online communities and travel.
Conditions
Compensation range: $70,000–$90,000 per year total cash; for New York City (hybrid): $70,000–$112,000 per year total cash (may include base and target bonus; equity may be offered separately).
Location/work model: New York City (hybrid) indicated as an option.
