Summary
Avaaz is seeking a Language Associate (Dutch) to translate and develop compelling campaigns in Dutch for members in The Netherlands, Belgium, and Dutch-speaking communities worldwide. This role combines translation expertise with hands-on technical support and campaign development to drive social change initiatives.
What you'll do
- Translate Avaaz campaigns from English to Dutch, creating strong and emotive campaign materials for The Netherlands, Belgium, and Dutch-speaking members globally
- Provide technical support for campaign development, including setting up email blasts and landing pages in the Avaaz website backend interface
- Draft, test, and support campaign development and implementation
- Research and identify sources for campaigns from press outlets and NGOs
- Monitor and enhance the Dutch Avaaz website and tools for functionality and language accuracy
- Support the Dutch campaign team in writing, editing, and translating campaign materials including briefings, advocacy letters, and press releases
- Review, manage, and support petitions published by Dutch members on the Avaaz Community Petitions website
Requirements
- Excellent written and oral communication and translation skills in Dutch with creative writing ability
- Excellent English communication skills as Avaaz's working language
- Professionalism, efficiency, and results-oriented approach to tight deadlines
- Flexibility to adapt to varying weekly workloads
- Passion for global justice, citizen empowerment, and social change
- Strong teamwork skills and comfort in collaborative, hierarchical environments
- Proficiency in Google Suite and online communication systems (Slack, Zoom, etc.)
- Ideally: cultural and linguistic understanding of regional differences between The Netherlands and Belgium
Conditions
Independent contractor role with flexible schedule. Paid hourly at €25 depending on experience and location. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes and statutory contributions in their country of residence.
