Director of Utility Partnerships (Remote, US)
Summary
Renew Home is building the largest residential virtual power plant in North America, partnering with leading brands and utilities to deliver flexible grid capacity from connected homes. The Director of Utility Partnerships is an individual-contributor sales leader responsible for driving new utility business, shaping programs, and closing long-term, multi-year partnerships at scale.
What you'll do
- Own the full enterprise sales lifecycle for strategic utility partnerships, from opportunity creation and stakeholder engagement through proposals, negotiation, and contract close.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline across utilities; proactively identify whitespace, create urgency, and convert interest into executed agreements.
- Educate utilities on the value of residential VPPs and flexible load resources; translate grid challenges into commercial opportunities.
- Develop trusted executive relationships across utility functions (grid planning, demand response, DER strategy, regulatory affairs, innovation).
- Navigate multi-party utility ecosystems, aligning utilities, regulators, implementers, platform providers, and market operators to move deals forward.
- Represent Renew Home at industry events, conferences, and working groups to expand presence and source new opportunities.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, regulatory, marketing, and customer success to translate customer needs into scalable offerings and successful deployments.
Requirements
- 10+ years of enterprise sales, partnerships, or business development experience within the energy sector, with a track record closing complex, multi-million dollar deals.
- Strong knowledge of the utility industry, demand-side management programs, distributed energy resources, and the energy transition landscape.
- Experience selling grid-facing solutions such as demand response, virtual power plants, DER aggregation, grid services, distributed energy, or supply-side energy transactions.
- Ability to operate self-directed in a fast-moving environment; take ownership and drive momentum with limited oversight.
- Strategic market development capability: identify emerging opportunities and convert early conversations into commercial agreements.
- Exceptional executive communication and relationship-building skills; able to explain technical and economic concepts to senior decision-makers.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States; no current or future visa sponsorship available.
Conditions
Work model: Fully remote (US).
Travel: Approximately 25% or more for utility partner engagement and industry events.
Employment type: Full-time.
Compensation: Competitive salary; on-target earnings (OTE) $250k–$270k+ depending on experience and US work location.
