Summary

Happy Money is a consumer finance company providing simple, transparent loans through its proprietary lending platform, Hive, in partnership with trusted financial institutions. The Fraud Analyst protects the company and lending partners by detecting and disrupting fraudulent loan applications and related funding risks across the applicant funnel.

What you'll do

  • Review flagged loan applications from automated fraud systems and underwriter referrals; evaluate complex, incomplete, or contradictory information across high daily volume.
  • Maintain detailed fraud case documentation and tracking for auditability and reporting.
  • Conduct fraud investigations by analyzing income and identity documents and incorporating third-party identity verification data.
  • Monitor real-time application queues and make disposition decisions based on evolving fraud typologies and risk signals.
  • Cross-reference data across internal and external systems (e.g., customer behavior patterns, IP addresses, geolocation) to assess high-risk applications.
  • Resolve high-risk applications in compliance with SLAs while ensuring thorough, individualized risk evaluation.
  • Perform daily reviews of funding accounts to detect potential fraud or misrepresentation and escalate urgent issues.
  • Identify patterns consistent with organized fraud rings or synthetic identities; escalate findings with documented recommendations for process/system improvements.
  • Support fraud-related projects as assigned by management.
  • Ensure investigations and communications comply with regulations (Reg E, Reg Z, FCRA, NACHA, OFAC, TCPA, UCC).
  • Support BSA/AML compliance by recognizing money laundering indicators and assisting with SAR processes in coordination with Compliance.
  • Improve fraud detection logic by surfacing emerging typologies, reducing false positives, and recommending efficiency enhancements.
  • Collaborate with internal and BPO teams to meet department goals.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of fraud experience in a financial institution or equivalent experience in underwriting, KYC, or identity verification.

  • Ability to identify fraud patterns (synthetic identities, first-party misrepresentation, account takeover) and interpret risk signals.

  • Exposure to organized fraud ring investigations and/or synthetic identity bust-out detection.

  • Familiarity with BSA/AML concepts and red-flag recognition.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear rationale documentation and precise escalation.

  • Sound decision-making under time pressure with partial or ambiguous data; high attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational skills for managing competing priorities in high-volume queues; ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Knowledge of fraud detection tools and platforms (e.g., Oscilar, Lexis Nexis, TLO) and experience in financial services/consumer lending fraud environments.

  • Bonus: cyber fraud experience; ACFE/CFE or similar credential; SAR filing experience; experience collaborating with BPOs.

Conditions

  • 100% fully distributed (remote) workforce.

  • Benefits: medical, dental, vision insurance; 401(k) with company match; generous PTO (sick, vacation, volunteer, and more); 12 weeks paid parental leave; company-paid short/long-term disability and life insurance.

  • Compensation: base salary range $60,000–$70,000 USD (eligible for annual bonus) plus a monthly tech stipend for remote work expenses.
