Research and Program Associate

Summary

The Colorado Health Institute (CHI) is an independent nonprofit research and convening organization focused on using evidence and analysis to advance health policy in Colorado. The Research and Program Associate supports research, evaluation, and project delivery to inform policy, program, and funding decisions across CHI’s priority areas.

What you'll do

  • Develop research questions and design data collection and evaluation strategies to support policy, program, and funding decisions
  • Conduct primary and secondary research, including literature reviews, policy scans, qualitative data collection (interviews, focus groups), and quantitative data collection
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data using Excel and other tools (e.g., SAS, R, ArcGIS, MAXQDA) to produce insights and recommendations
  • Develop, organize, and maintain datasets; ensure data accuracy, integrity, and quality-control processes
  • Monitor and synthesize emerging health and policy trends in Colorado and nationally to inform project work
  • Manage or support project timelines, deliverables, reporting requirements, and documentation (e.g., work plans, communication plans)
  • Coordinate internal teams and external partners; serve as a project point of contact as appropriate
  • Provide project logistics support (scheduling meetings, coordinating interviews, tracking progress, managing contractors/vendors as needed)
  • Write reports, briefs, and presentation materials; present findings to stakeholders and partners
  • Facilitate inclusive meetings and stakeholder engagement processes; support business development (proposal and grant writing)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Travel statewide as needed

Requirements

  • 1–4 years of relevant experience in research, evaluation, public health, public policy, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Clear, concise writing skills with ability to communicate complex information simply
  • Experience with basic research methods (literature reviews, surveys, interviews, data analysis)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with statistical or qualitative analysis software preferred (e.g., SAS, R, ArcGIS, MAXQDA)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and open to feedback
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Bilingual or multilingual fluency preferred (not required)

Conditions

  • Hybrid work environment with two days per week in the office
  • Role may be filled at Associate I or Associate II level depending on experience and qualifications
  • Salary offers are typically placed at the beginning of the range and are not negotiable
