Summary
Macy’s is hiring an Assistant Merchandise Planner (Assistant, Assortment Analyst) to support the Assortment team in achieving sales, margin, turn, and growth objectives through assortment optimization. The role partners closely with Merchants and uses in-season performance analysis to inform allocation, reorders, and strategic recommendations.
What you'll do
Contribute to assortment plan development aligned to business and promotional strategies.
Collaborate with Merchants to align channel plans to strategic and financial objectives.
Support channel-specific assortment plans and identify opportunities for growth.
Analyze in-season product performance (channel demand, class/category, style, and marketing performance).
Assess assortment effectiveness by channel and respond to business opportunities.
Monitor vendor performance and recommend actions to maximize profitability.
Set allocation parameters (minimum/maximum) and run allocations in A3.
Create recaps and provide strategic insights to the Director of Assortment Planning.
Conduct report analyses including location group performance (Region/Tier/Climate).
React to in-season sales trends, communicate findings, and adjust allocations accordingly.
Execute reorders based on business needs and changing demand patterns.
Build respectful, inclusive relationships with colleagues, customers, and communities.
Requirements
Strong business acumen and understanding of how assortment optimization impacts sales, margin, turn, and growth.
Knowledge of merchandising principles and practices.
Collaboration skills to partner effectively with Merchants and cross-functional teams.
Analytical skills for evaluating in-season product performance and channel assortment effectiveness.
Basic understanding of financial performance metrics related to assortment planning.
Proactive, self-starter approach with ability to identify growth opportunities.
Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
1–2 years of experience in retail or ecommerce buying or planning.
