What you'll do
- Collaborate with the Director to develop and execute the buying framework for the designated category.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment to top-line strategic and financial objectives.
- Conduct and support analysis across pre-market, in-market, and post-market activities to inform assortment decisions.
- Support Private Brand line plans using historical performance and adoption rates.
- Contribute to style-out processes to align assortment to customer preferences and market trends.
- Support allocation activities including confirming store matrix and applying Min/Max at the style level.
- Pre-market: build by-store sales and turn plans aligned to annual financial targets.
- Pre-market: review receipt flow plans and address variances with Financial Planning.
- Pre-market: help define clustering strategies across channel and tier/climate differences.
- Pre-market: participate in building and maintaining category C-1 with the Divisional Merchandise Manager (DMM).
- Pre-market: assess current season performance and determine future replenishment assortment.
- Pre-market: establish bottoms-up targets for key-item volume drivers, trends, and newness.
- Pre-market: evaluate assortment breadth, depth, and productivity; help finalize the shopping list before market appointments.
- In-market: quantify the buyer’s curated assortment by brand, style, channel, and store cluster; identify duplication across styles/vendors.
- Post-market: support style-outs in NuOrder (or within the market cycle) and finalize changes after style-out and Buy Review; help send orders for allocation.
- Allocation: support EDI allocations to vendors at least 30 days prior to In-DC dates and confirm receipt availability before releasing orders.
- Participate in key process update discussions (assortment wedges, goals, risks/upside, clustering, breadth/depth philosophy, key door initiatives).
- Step in to attend market appointments when needed in the absence of the Assortment Director.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, acceptance, and respect across colleagues, customers, and communities.
Requirements
- Strong analytical skills with ability to analyze sales data, turn plans, and financial targets to guide assortment planning decisions.
- Experience or knowledge in assortment planning, assortment strategies, and buying/merchandise planning processes.
- Understanding of financial planning concepts including variance analysis.
- Familiarity with allocation processes (store matrix, Min/Max at style level) and working with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to support style-out workflows; familiarity with NuOrder is beneficial.
- Comfort working in a retail category planning environment (industry: retail apparel and fashion; category: fragrances).
