GIS Addressing Coordinator

Summary

The City of Delray Beach is seeking a GIS Addressing Coordinator to provide customer service and professional, technical, and administrative support for the City’s enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

This role focuses on addressing support for new development and coordinating with internal departments and external agencies to assign, verify, and maintain accurate addressing and street naming data.

What you'll do

  • Update and maintain the master street address database in the enterprise GIS system, including assigning new addresses for developments, redevelopments, and utilities locations.
  • Update addresses in AS400/NavaLine/CentralSquare in support of sunsetting technology.
  • Review proposed street names and addresses for compliance with the City of Delray Beach Addressing and Street Naming Manual.
  • Coordinate city-wide address sharing with external agencies (e.g., US Postal Service, adjacent jurisdictions, Palm Beach County, State of Florida).
  • Integrate GIS address changes with emergency preparedness and public safety functions and support growth of the City’s GIS footprint.
  • Maintain records of new street names and addresses and coordinate with the E-911 Systems Coordinator to ensure updates are placed into the E-911 database.
  • Work directly with the public to issue addresses, respond to questions/concerns, and prepare notification letters for new or changed addresses.
  • Conduct mapping research, including field work, to resolve addressing conflicts and verify address data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the GIS Manager and other GIS professionals across City departments and partner agencies.
  • Monitor data placement and capacity; develop and enhance database structures, data collection methodologies, and data dictionaries; identify and correct data errors; store and retrieve archived data.
  • Produce maps, analyses, data extracts, and reports; generate deliverables such as lists, tables, maps, and documentation; develop mapping strategies for thematic or query-based analysis.
  • Support positive employee relations and morale on a City-wide basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Geography/Cartography, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of advanced experience with Geographic Information Systems.
  • At least 2 years of experience in municipal addressing, including reading and interpreting maps, aerial photography, plats, and performing technical data input and analysis.
  • Documented experience with Esri ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and an enterprise GIS environment.
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Preferred/Plus:

    • GIS certification.
    • Experience with AS400, NavaLine, and CentralSquare.
    • Experience with Adobe Illustrator (or similar) for enhancing GIS map quality.
    • Proficiency with relevant tools such as ArcGIS/ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro, R, and transportation modeling tools (FSUTMS/Cube Voyager/TransCAD/VISSUM).
    • Experience using AutoCAD.
    • Experience with analytics platforms, GIS database maintenance, and GIS database editing.
  • Core competencies:

    • Ability to make technical decisions, coordinate projects, exercise independent judgment, and take initiative.
    • Knowledge of data processing in GIS environments and related peripherals (plotters/graphics/imaging).
    • Knowledge of geography, cartography, GIS software, and relational database concepts.
    • Ability to manage and prioritize requests from multiple departments in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to adapt to evolving processes.
    • Proficiency with PC and office software (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, email).
