Summary
Recidiviz is a mission-driven organization building technology to reduce incarceration and improve criminal justice outcomes through data-driven decision-making. The Data Analyst will work with complex criminal justice datasets and cross-functional teams to generate insights, improve tooling, and ensure analytics readiness for product launches across states.
What you'll do
- Explore datasets to uncover insights about American criminal justice systems.
- Contextualize and communicate key findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with State Engagement and Implementation Engineering to design and execute state roadmaps that drive impact.
- Partner with Product Management, Data Science, and Software Engineering to bring analyses and data modeling into production software.
- Analyze trends and changes related to Recidiviz’s work to understand product performance and outcomes.
Requirements
- 2+ years of full-time, professional work experience, including practical experience exploring, analyzing, and processing complex datasets.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills and ability to work with diverse internal and external partners.
- Ability to inspect source data, reason about data models, validate results, and prepare usable datasets and analyses.
- High proficiency with SQL for large datasets, including writing efficient queries for complex extraction and transformation.
- High familiarity with Python, especially Pandas, for statistical analysis and data visualization.
Preferred: experience in cross-functional product organizations; experience with public sector/criminal justice datasets; familiarity with GCP, BigQuery, Looker, Jupyter notebooks, and Python/Pandas.
Conditions
- Full-time role.
- Remote within the United States, with office flexibility in Oakland and Manhattan.
- Travel encouraged about once every 6 months (and occasionally required) to state partners within the continental USA; may include visits to prisons and parole offices.
