Healthcare Scheduler PART TIME

Summary

Banner Health is a nationally recognized healthcare organization seeking a part-time Healthcare Scheduler to support system-wide patient access. This role focuses on answering inbound calls and coordinating appointments, insurance/authorization details, and patient instructions to deliver an easy and empathetic scheduling experience. The position is remote within Banner-approved states and supports patients, providers, and facilities across the system.

What you'll do

  • Answer inbound and place outbound calls with patients, providers, and facilities to schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments while following established protocols.

  • Schedule appointments, tests, and procedures using electronic medical record (EMR) and scheduling systems; offer alternative scheduling options when preferences are unavailable while maintaining patient safety.

  • Collect and document patient demographics, insurance information, and required documents to support registration, referrals, and authorizations.

  • Provide pre- and post-test instructions, appointment locations, and directions; answer basic questions within guidelines and route clinical questions as appropriate.

  • Set payment expectations and provide estimated payment details where applicable; collect pre-payments and verify insurance coverage when required.

  • Communicate through phone, chat, email, and EMR messaging to build relationships and deliver a solution-oriented patient experience.

  • Manage scanned documents and orders within document imaging software; ensure documentation and orders are received and compliant prior to appointments.

  • Coordinate with departments to provide accurate managed care information and support communications across operating states.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

  • Experience: 1+ years of customer service or related experience in a healthcare setting (e.g., medical office/clinic/hospital scheduling); may include lab, medical transcription, medical assistant, or receptionist experience.

  • Contact center skills: Ability to deliver essential customer service in a high-paced inbound environment and respond via calls, email, and/or chat while maintaining professionalism.

  • Technical skills: Ability to use technology tools to research information; computer proficiency, accurate typing/keyboarding, and effective use of common office software.

  • Soft skills: Strong interpersonal communication, ability to follow oral/written directions, organization and time management, teamwork, and ability to meet deadlines and productivity standards.

  • Preferred: Inbound call center or practice management scheduling experience; familiarity with medical terminology; knowledge of payer contract terms and processes.

Conditions

  • Type: Part-time (19.5 hours/week).

  • Schedule: Must be able to work Mondays 8:00 AM–4:30 PM; remaining days determined by shift bids.

  • Training: Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–4:30 PM for six weeks.

  • Work arrangement: Remote (Banner-approved states) and requires a hardwired internet connection.

  • Shift: Day.

  • Pay range: $19.06–$28.60 per hour (based on location, education, and experience).
