Chief Economist

LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, is hiring a Chief Economist to serve as its senior authority on global economic trends, labor markets, and the future of work. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, this role blends rigorous economic research with real-world application to guide strategy, advise customers and executives, and strengthen LinkedIn’s voice in policy and media circles.

• Set and lead the strategic economic research agenda focused on labor markets, productivity, AI’s impact on work, and global macroeconomic trends.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of economists and data scientists.
• Oversee the creation of proprietary, data-driven insights for executives, customers, policymakers, and the public.
• Advise senior leadership on macroeconomic conditions, economic risk, and signals that inform growth acceleration or strategic adjustments.
• Translate economic signals into implications for workforce strategy, hiring, skills development, and organizational design.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Policy, Communications, Marketing, and Sales to embed economic insights into decisions and storytelling.
• Act as a visible public voice via marketing channels, media, academic forums, and conferences to shape discourse on the future of work.
• Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, customers, central banks, academic institutions, and global economic organizations.
• Represent LinkedIn in external advisory roles, economic councils, and board-level discussions where appropriate.
• Contribute to governance, risk management, and long-term economic resilience discussions while upholding analytical rigor and credibility.

• Advanced degree in Economics or a related field (PhD strongly preferred).
• 12+ years of experience in macroeconomics, monetary policy, labor economics, capital markets, and economic risk.
• 10+ years of experience working in a large, global matrixed company.
• Demonstrated ability to synthesize macro and labor signals into clear business implications, scenarios, trade-offs, and executive advice.
• Experience spanning multiple sectors (e.g., technology, finance, banking, and/or public institutions).
• Proven leadership of complex analytical teams including economists and data scientists.
• Exceptional communication skills for executive, public, and non-technical audiences.
• Experience partnering with Marketing, Communications, or Brand teams to scale data-driven thought leadership.
• Track record as a public speaker and media contributor on economic topics.
• Experience engaging with senior policymakers, central banks, and/or serving on boards (strongly preferred).

• Location options: New York, NY; San Francisco, CA; Sunnyvale, CA; or remote.
• Work model: remote or hybrid depending on business needs; hybrid includes select in-office days; remote performed from designated home location (changes require approval).
• Compensation: stated pay range is $330,000–$480,000 annually; total compensation may include annual performance bonus, stock, benefits, and/or other incentives.
