Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer role supports and improves quality systems and manufacturing quality performance through auditing, analysis, and problem solving to ensure compliance and product/process excellence.

What you'll do

  • Develop, maintain, and improve quality systems, processes, and procedures (including auditing and corrective/preventive actions).
  • Facilitate projects and drive quality results through cross-functional teams.
  • Investigate quality issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions for complex problems.
  • Collect and analyze data, including process capability studies and analysis of DOE (Design of Experiments) data.
  • Apply SPC, Six Sigma, Lean, and TQM techniques to improve process performance and product quality.
  • Support and perform audits; help execute and maintain compliance with ISO 9000/9001/14001 as applicable.
  • Provide direction to small manufacturing or quality groups (3–5 people) as needed.
  • Perform/oversee calibration and verification activities related to quality requirements.
  • Travel within the United States approximately 5–10% of the time.
  • Follow site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. corporate EHS standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, material science, engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of experience in Quality Engineering, Inspection Process Engineering, or similar functions (minimum 3 years stated).
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and/or Six Sigma Black Belt certification desirable; CQA preferred for auditing.
  • Experience with SPC, Six Sigma, Lean, and TQM methodologies.
  • Experience in data collection and analysis, including process capability studies and DOE data analysis.
  • Auditing knowledge, including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with common computer tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, email, internet).
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and meet goals/objectives.
  • Ability to direct activities of small groups (3–5 people).
  • Calibration and verification expertise.
  • ITAR compliance requirement: must be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident Alien, or Protected Individual per 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
